Personality
Detailed Personality
Gabriel is what some would call a "free spirit", but he hates that term. Being a curious and slightly obnoxious child, he got used to having attention and thrived in it. The attention he was given just honed his nature to be loud and talkative to anyone who would listen. He never cares if the other person really wants to hear his opinion since they're going to anyway. With his outside personality being outspoken, he comes off friendly to everyone he meets and means it normally. He was labeled a "troublemaker" early on for his mischievous, inquisitive attitude to just have fun.
His friendly nature allows him to be tolerant to both new people and new experiences. One of his favorite things to do is experience new things. His tolerance usually keeps him from judging a person from the first meeting or rumors and gossips he'd heard. He likes to form his opinion on his own without allowing other people to make his mind up for him. His mother paid attention to him and showed him love which made him open to be friendly and affectionate to others as well. He's caring and loyal to those who he feels he can count on. When someone becomes his friend, he would do almost anything for them that was within his power. The other side of his adventurous nature is the constant need to find something bigger and better in his life.
Gabriel refuses to play dumb. He may not be the smartest person around, but when he knows something, he loves to show it. One of the things he hates the most in life is when someone - anyone - talks down to him, underestimates him, or expects less than he's capable. He hates the part of himself that is arrogant rather than just confident, but even he knows that he can come off that way. He tries to hold that part of his personality off so his arrogance isn't overwhelming or come off badly to someone. He can be rather scatter-minded at times. Normally, he focuses on one thing - especially with his art and projects - at a time and loses his focus on everything else. His room is constantly a mess and he even forgets to shave. He likes to think he can multi-task well, but he somehow always fails to do it productively. The bane of his existence is any unfinished projects he has.
Gabriel likes to consider himself as a funny person. While his attempts at wit and jokes sometimes falls short his audience, it doesn't stop him from trying. Due to his desire to be seen good natured, funny, and amusing, he sometimes does seem like he doesn't take life seriously. For him, life had been fairly easy. His good marks in school showed people just why they shouldn't always underestimate him and think him of the laid back guy who seemed to want to party more than study.
A dark side of his personality is that he can be stubborn. While he has a very long fuse, when his temper is ignited it's safer for someone to run the other way. While he doesn't shout or yell, he snaps and makes comments that he knows would be hurtful to the other person. He's not spoiled enough to think that everything should go his way, but he still can throw a tantrum when something that's important to him doesn't go his way. He tends to not think too much before he jumps into things, not caring how taking something else on in the long run will effect him. He has a strong weakness for anything that could make him feel good in the moment.
First Impression: Gabriel doesn't like to make snap judgement about someone so most of the time he comes off genuinely friendly and open.
Likes: his mother (though she's deceased), chocolate chip cookies, art, coffee (black, iced, with cream, flavored... any coffee), alcohol (whiskey is his favorite), women, men, sex, pub food, music (instrumental while he works on a project; loud rock while he's not), money, knowing more about someone than they think he does, cigarettes, marijuana, flying, dancing badly to bad music and dancing badly to good music, sleeping in (or rather just sleeping in), junk food, France, Paris, ect.
Dislikes: funerals/death, unfinished projects, being broke, water, tequila (only alcohol he refuses to drink), people who look/talk down to him, country music, peas, being alone, being quiet, being wrong, prejudice, the color orange, big fish, boredom, shaving regularly, yelling, Death Eaters, Voldemort, ect.
Boggart: it would have been his mother dead before her death, but now it's him without hands (signifying him being unable to create art)
Mirror of Erised: His mother beside him while he's surrounded by his own art to signify a successful art career

History
Grandparents: Lucas Avery Sr. / Susan Avery (both purebloods)
Father: Lucas Avery Jr. (pureblood / Death Eater / estranged / in Azkaban)
Mother: Alexandra Hayden (pureblood / deceased)
Siblings: N/A
Children: N/A
Pets: black owl named Michelangelo
Detailed History:
Between 1938 and 1945, Lucas Avery Sr. attended Hogwarts School For Witchcraft and Wizardry in the Slytherin House with Tom Riddle. Despite Tom's blood status, the two were quick friends and despite himself, Lucas actually found himself not just Tom's friend, but his supporter. As Tom told him grand plans of a grand world of pureblood superiority, he found himself dreaming of that world himself and wondered how he could help make the dream world come true. As Tom Riddle turned into Lord Voldemort, Lucas met and married fellow pureblood, Susan in 1948. Even in his marriage, Lucas' devotion seemed to be more to Tom than to the marriage itself. Lucas and Susan both had affairs that they looked the other way to, not caring much as long as the image of their perfect marriage remained intact for society. In 1954, Lucas and Susan had their one and old child, a son they named Lucas Avery Jr.. But the Dark Lord that both Averys followed blindly started to work to create his world.
Lucas Jr. was born into the world of the Death Eaters and war on the fridges. He was raised to believe just as his parents and their Dark Lord did. When he attended Hogwarts himself in Slytherin in 1964 to 1971, he befriends his own gang of Slytherins. War was on the raise outside the walls and the moment he graduated, he joined the Death Eaters officially himself. It was a proud moment for him and his parents, but it was clear that he hadn't joined for the wrong reasons. While he was glad that his parents were agreeable with his choice, he believed in the pureblood world that was promised to him from their Dark Lord and a faithful follower. Despite his devotion to his Dark Lord, he still had his own needs and delight to take care of as well. Alexandra Hayden were four years younger than him and a pureblood from Ravenclaw. When he met her just after her graduation, he quickly became enraptured by the young woman. With the dream of a new society and war on the horizon, he didn't marry her. Lucas Jr. and Alexandra had a heated affair for a year. When she became pregnant in late 1976, he refused to do the "right" thing by her. They never married and he decided instead to focus on his Dark Lord's dream and the war. Alexandra unwittingly found out about her lover's part as a Death Eater one night when she walked in on him discussing the war with a fellow Death Eater. Alexandra, seven months pregnant, didn't hang out to find out what finding out would truly mean. She fled to Paris, France where she opened a shop and had her son alone whom she named Gabriel on July 22, 1977.
Since Alexandra had been pregnant with his son, Lucas Jr. had searched for her, but they were in the middle of a war. He didn't have much information to go on since her family claimed to not know where the young mother had went. When the first wizarding world ended with his Dark Lord disappearing, Lucas Jr. claimed to have been under the Imperius Curse for any of his misdoings in the first war. Getting out of prison, he didn't search for his Dark Lord, but he did search for Alexandra and his son. He spent a lot of money and time trying to locate Alexandra Hayden.
Gabriel Christian Hayden was born in Paris, France to Alexandra Hayden in Paris. His mother was British, went around the legal and diplomatic ropes to get her son duel citizenship. She rarely spoke of Gabriel's father to him or anyone else, leaving it quite vague. Gabriel had a happy childhood with Alexandra in Paris surrounded by love and joy with their makeshift family. No one around them as related by blood to the pair, but they all made their own family with Gabriel never lacking love or attention. He was an inquisitive and slightly obnoxious child who thrived on the attention. Alexandra owned a small grocery store that Gabriel was raised in an apartment above. He hung out a lot in his early childhood at the store, but also attended muggle primary school at first. With his mother being English, he was talk how to speak English with almost no accent as well as, of course, fluent French. It was during his childhood that he found his love of art. Alexandra quickly encouraged her son's talent. He found himself enjoying everything from drawing, painting, and sculpturing. Gabriel's mother shelled out the money for art tutoring to hone and nurture her son's talent.
In 1988, Gabriel went to Beauxbatons Academy to study magic. He did quite well in school both socially and academically. He was a very social child and grew into an even more social young adult. Thriving in attention, excitement, and new activities, there was nothing Gabriel wouldn't try. He wanted a new experience every day if he could get one. When he was sixteen, he accepted that he was bisexual and had casual, small relationships with both girls and boys. His dating life was strangely active for someone who attended Beauxbatons Academy and went home to his mother and her shop during the summers. Gabriel never strayed far from his mother, always being in contact and loving to return home during the summer.
After years of search, It was only in 1994 that Lucas Jr. finally caught a break in the search for his ex-lover and son. While some students from Beauxbatons Academy was visiting for the Triwizard Tournament hosted Hogwarts, Alexandra come into the country to see her son, Gabriel who was there during the time. Alexandra tried to deny everything, but Lucas Jr. wouldn't hear anything of it. Finding out she was from Paris, he looked into the information from Paris school and birth records, he found his son's existence. Despite not being the Beauxbatons Academy's champion, Gabriel was still at Hogwarts to finish the school year and Lucas Jr. immediately contacted him. Curious, Gabriel met with the man claiming to his father. They had an odd resemblance toward one another and after hearing the man out, Gabriel demanded answers from his mother immediately. Explaining that she had been scared and was even trying to protect him, Alexandra told Gabriel who her father was and had been and what she had unheard. When they both discovered that Lucas Jr. had claimed to be under the Imperius Curse during the first war, Gabriel agreed to get to know the man. After Cedric Diggory died during the Triwizard Tournament with the claim that Lord Voldemort had returned at the end, both weren't even wary if Lucas Jr. had anything to do with it.
The moment Gabriel got back to France, he graduated and finally was on his own and seen as an adult. He moved out of his mother's place, getting a place of his own and work as an art tutor. The pay wasn't stellar, but he made enough for just himself. Throughout the summer, Gabriel and his father got together and spent time together, trying to bond for the first time. It was the end of that summer that Gabriel changed his name to made Avery as a middle name. He didn't want to insult his happy life. He was a Hayden, through and through. But he knew a part of him now was apparently an Avery. Alexandra wasn't impressed or happy by the news, but Gabriel had always been stubborn. Knowing she'd never win, she merely expressed her distaste for the name and moved on. Gabriel wasn't that fond of his name either when his father ended up the next year in the news about being present in a break in at the Department of Mysteries in the British Ministry of Magic. Yet he'd just changed his name, trying to grow close to the father he never knew, so he didn't do anything about it. Lucas Jr. claimed that he hadn't been there and they got the name and facts wrong. Gabriel, still not knowing his father well enough, chose to blindly believe in. After all, Gabriel was still tucked safely away in Paris.
As Britain's wizarding community break out into full on war again, Gabriel and Alexandra stayed safely in Paris. Lucas Jr. at first tried to visit his son, but his visits slowed down and became shorter over the next two year. In 1997, when the British Ministry fell and the Spinnet family took a devastating loss with the deaths of their father and one of the sons, Gabriel helped the mother and brother of his friend, Alicia Spinnet from Hogwarts, come safely to France. His mother and he tried hard to make the move as comfortable and easy as possible for the two, welcoming them into the fold as much as they were comfortable with. Finally in May 1998, Lucas Jr. never came back since he was imprisoned after the Battle at Hogwarts when Lord Voldemort was finally murdered. Gabriel and Alexandra were both in shock when they heard the news, but Alexandra made the mistake of telling Gabriel a very sorry "I told you so" over her original fear of his father. In it was April 2001 when Gabriel's loving mother, Alexandra's shop was broken into by wizards and she was killed in the break in. Gabriel was racked with pain and grief and stayed in Paris for a bit to handle what he needed to. But everywhere he looked in Paris, he saw his mother. It hurt worse for him to stay.
Confused, stubborn, angry, and hurt, Gabriel took a page from his mother's book and went to London in mid-2001. First, he visited his father in Azkaban only to discover that it had been lies from the beginning. Angrier than ever, he didn't bother to return to Paris after the visit but to sell the shop his mother had left him. He didn't bother to change his name either. He felt betrayed and like he had betrayed his mother. Alexandra had always tried to keep her son innocent, ignorant, and safe out of her love for him, but in the end, he had turned his back on her and even changed his last name.
Deciding that it made no sense to return to Paris, he set up in London. Even two years later now, he still feels now and then like an outsider and visitor in his new home. His career now was to be an artist - both street and gallery - and an art tutor. Every now and then, he still thinks he should change his last name back to Hayden, but just feels it's too much at the moment. He misses his mother every day and hates going to Paris just to see memories of her everywhere he went.
